About David
David Campbell Bannerman, known affectionately as ‘dcb’, is the Deputy Leader of UKIP and a UKIP MEP for the East of England. David Campbell Bannerman has long-standing connections with the area and has family there. David was first elected to the European Parliament in June 2009. In just a few months, David has been at the forefront of the UKIP campaign against the European superstate.
David believes in putting his country first before party or personal interest. He is firmly committed to common sense policies that better the lives of all the people of Britain. He believes that UKIP is the modern Churchillian party that is seeking to warn citizens of the dangers of the European Union and its similarities to former Yugoslavia – a ‘Euroslavia’.
David loves Europe, its peoples and cultures, but not the remote, antidemocratic and fraudulent European Union model. This David regards as being dangerous to our shared freedoms, and destructive of our historic British identity.
As a former ministerial advisor, David has served at the highest levels of the British Government. During the Irish Peace Process, David was the Special Adviser to Sir Patrick Mayhew who was the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. It was David’s proposal for decommissioning terrorist weapons that helped bring an end to the Troubles.
Disillusioned by the Conservatives’ two faced position on Europe, David joined UKIP in 2004 for it is the one party that fights to save Britain from the EU bureaucrats. In the 2005 General Election, David contested North Cornwall for UKIP where he achieved a strong result and retained his deposit. Later that year, David was asked to take over the role of UKIP’s Party Chairman and then in October 2006, he became the party’s Deputy Leader under Leader Nigel Farage MEP. David is now very proud to have been adopted as the UKIP Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for South Suffolk in the forthcoming 2010 General Election.
A great supporter of the Commonwealth, David was born in India but has lived in England since he was a child. After graduating from Edinburgh University with an M.A (Honours) degree, David first worked for advertising agencies and public relations companies. He went to become the Communications Director for a leading transport organisation ( ATOC ) and then led the website division of a leading PLC.
David is also a film screenwriter whose scripts have attracted serious interest from Hollywood. To relax, David enjoys country walks, film and real ale.
